2011-07-25/31 Weekly LOVIEE

Summer in Houston sizzles on with more hot events. There’s something for everyone this week, whether it be stage plays, country, rock, or kung-fu cinema.

Continuing This Week

The United States of Tamarie: An All American Revue (Made In China), DiverseWorks, 1117 East Freeway, 8pm, pay-what-you-can. Tamarie Cooper is back, with a play that examines the inherent absurdity of our modern national identity. This play will be running Wednesday through Saturday nights until August 20. 11-W28-2 / 11-CTTUST

“Meaning In Motion” by Pablo Gimenez Zapiola, Spacetaker ARC, 2101 Winter Street #B11, 10am-6pm (visitors are requested to call 713-868-1839 for an appointment to ensure that the gallery is open). Live train projection this week on Wednesday, 8:45pm-10:45pm. 11-PGZMM

Wednesday 07-27

The Krayolas, Under the Volcano, 2349 Bissonnet, 8pm. Psychedelic pop and Tex-Mex garage rock. This band came off of a long hiatus in 2009, so if the name sounds vaguely familiar that’s why. 11-W30-2

Saturday show: Molly Malone’s, 7824 Louetta Rd (Spring), show 10pm, no cover. It seems like the local champions of “stout Irish rock” have been spending more time performing outside of the Houston area than in it. Here’s a chance to catch them for their only local show this month. 11-M07-8 (R&R) / 11-M07-9 (Molly Malone’s)

Saturday 07-30

Due to electrical problems preventing me from accessing my normal Internet connection, this will be a rather brief post this week. One of these events is for tonight (Tuesday) and I apologize for the late notice; I usually try to get these up further in advance as you may know if you are a regular reader.

For those who haven’t noticed, the new theme is up. I had hoped to tie up a few loose ends but I simply did not have the time last week and I did not want to delay the new theme any longer. So you you may see a few more small tweaks as the weeks go by.

I am not ignoring the outlying areas this week; it just happens that most of the good stuff is taking place inside the loop this time around.

Thursday 07-14

The Worst Thing You Can Do To People Is To Forget Them, Skydive Art Space, 2041 Norfolk Street, 8:30pm (but see description). The Sketchy Neighbors present their first live performance ever in their three year collaboration. While the performance starts at 8:30pm, arrival is requested between 8pm and 8:15pm due to the one-hour limit of the performance. 11-W28-1
